Fiumefreddo Bruzio
Departure for Fiumefreddo Bruzio, lunch in a magnificent restaurant to learn about the culinary culture of the village that in 2015 was called “Il Borgo dei Borghi” (Means the best village ever). Visit of the village that boasts enchanting streets, noble palaces and an excellent vantage point. Transfer to the village of Buonvicino, accommodation in the appartments located in the village, dinner and overnight stay.
Buonvicino
Breakfast and departure for Orsomarso. It was first a Roman center and later an important Basilian center. Visit to the beautiful Clock Tower that looks like the meeting point between sky and sea. Poor buildings, in stone, alternate with nobles and splendid palaces. The real spectacle is given by the nature reserve: the valley of the Argentario River. Lunch break and return to Buonvicino, visit to the taste museum and the fantastic village. In the evening Cultural Dinner based on the recipes of the book “PRACTICAL THEORETICAL CUISINE” by Duke Ippolito Cavalcanti.
Cirella Vecchia and Diamante
Breakfast and departure to the ruins of Cirella Vecchia. Known and frequented by the Greeks and then by the Romans, the city still retains its medieval appearance despite being partially destroyed by Napoleon in 1806. Today it is one of the many ghost villages that are present in the Calabrian territory. We move to Santa Maria del Cedro to learn about cedar, a typical Calabrian citrus. We do a tasting with typical products. We move to the charming village of Diamante, renowned for its murals and chili pepper, return, dinner and overnight stay.
Papasidero and Laino
Check out and departure to Papasidero, located on Mount Pollino 210 meters high on the canyon of the Lao River. A small settlement of 600 people that still keeps its traditions intact, guaranteeing unique emotions to the visitor. The visit to the village is a dive into ancient history: we visit the magnificent Cave of Romito, an enchanting natural wonder that is located in the hamlet of Papasidero (Nuppolara). Lunch at the restaurant and transfer to Laino Borgo. The village originated from Greek colonization in the time of Magna Graecia, although the first historical signs present date back to the Byzantine domination Andiamo a Laino Castello, village that since 1982 has come back to life thanks to a hotel and tourist attraction such as the living nativity scene. Transfer to Civita, check in, dinner and overnight stay.
Morano and Civita
We visit Civita, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a jewel located on the canyon of the Raganello river. A must to get to know Pollino better. Beautiful chymneys and Kodra houses with their particular anthropomorphic shape. We see the Devil’s Bridge overlooking the gorges of the Raganello. Free lunch and transfer to Morano. It offers visitors the exciting prospect of a nativity scene. Dominated by the ancient castle, it preserves works of art of great importance. Visit to churches, the Nibbio Nature Museum and the Museum of Agriculture and Pastoralism. Return, dinner and overnight stay.
Altomonte
Check out and departure for Altomonte: one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, home to the association “city of bread” and renowned already in Roman times for wine called Balbino. We see the churches of San Francesco da Paola and the wonderful church of Santa Maria della Consolazione, exponent of Angevin art in Calabria. We also see the civic museum that was once a convent of Dominican friars. Inside there are very important works of art such as those of the painter Simone Martini, known as Simone Senese.
