Itinerary
welcome greetings
We meet in the hut, welcome greetings and briefing. Dinner and overnight.
“Passo di Ropolà” and St. Paul’s gorges
First we see an abandoned wildlife repopulation center and then we reach Monte Cottonera where we can enjoy a great view. We then arrive in Monte Campanaro (474 meters) passin through a challenging path, but the effort is rewarded by the incredible view of the Gorges of St. Paul, the stone of death and the phenomena due to erosion. A unique show! We also meet a majestic cork oak. Return, dinner and overnight.
Monte tre Pizzi
This is an excursion in the eastern Aspromonte with the aim of seeing the important and famous Monte Tre Pizzi. It is called in this way because its shape resembles three fingers of the hand. We reach the top where we can admire the beauty of the jasmine coast (Costa dei gelsomini). From here the view is wonderful: The two rivers of Saint Paul and Condoianni, the fortress of Gerace, the jasmine coast (From Capo Spartivento to Punta Stilo) and in the end Pietra Cappa and Montalto. The return path has the typical Calabrian vegetation made of broom, heather and other shrubs. We also see the calabrian breeding types and the Cave “Du Remitu”, the refuge of an old hermit shepherd.
Pietra Cappa
It is defined as the queen of Aspromonte, in fact it is the symbol of the unesco candidacy of the park. The name of the highest monolith in Europe comes from the Greek word “Kauka” which means empty. This excursion is undoubtedly the most suggestive and exciting! We start from the Natile Vecchio village and on the way we see other important monoliths such as Pietra Ndriuni and Pietra Tonda. In the same area we find the rocks of St. Peter in which caves were dug by Basilian monks to pray. We cross the beautiful forest of lychees and oaks that precedes the stone: 130 meters high it is rich in mystical energy and legends, but also of nests of birds of prey. We also see the ancient ruins of St. George’s Church. Return, dinner and overnight.
Mundu e Galasia’s waterfalls
These two waterfalls are ideal for lovers of nature excursions. They are surrounded by lush vegetation but of ancient origins, such as the Woodwardia Radicans, a prehistoric fern that is 60 million years old. The name Mundu comes from an ancient Greek word and means nude, while Galasia indicates a ravine. The Mundu Valley is an anciently cultivated site that preserves ancient cultivation practices. The trail gives us other breathtaking places such as the Galasia Piccola waterfall. It is a waterfall of recent formation located in a landscape that might seem apocalyptic consisting of the “gurnali”, pools of water of blue or green color, and huge boulders. Finally we meet the Galasia waterfall that has the shape of a bride’s veil and that knows how to excite deeply. We return to the hotel, greetings.
